Lucy and Rob moved to the Gold Coast from Sydney back in 2008. Here's their story.
Why did you move to the Gold Coast?
After having a baby we envisaged a lifestyle that would be best suited to raising a family focusing on outdoors and a healthy environment to raise our children.
We also considered moving to the sunshine coast, however we have some family on the Gold Coast and therefore it was the obvious option for us.
What has been the hardest part about transitioning into GC life?
The first few years were tough in terms of getting used to the slow pace especially since we came from Surry Hills in Sydney City where it is a constant hustle and bustle. It took us a while to adjust. But we absolutely love it now. It has been the best decision we ever made for our family.
Where do you live?
We initially lived in Robina as it was a central area, however we always had the Southern end of the coast in mind as our permanent area to reside in.
We rented initially to take time to look without rushing into anything or buying online without first getting a feel for all suburbs and what they have to offer.
We now live in Currumbin Waters and love the location. We’re surrounded by bush but only 5 minutes from the beach.
What school do your kids attend?
Our daughter attends Marymount College in Burleigh Waters and both children went to primary school at St Augustine's, a small catholic school in Currumbin Waters. We are completely happy with our decisions regarding schools as we wanted our children to attend a small community school.
What do you do work-wise?
My husband has just opened a Cafe in the local community (The Galleon 4223) of Currumbin Waters as he has 20 years hospitality experience and it was always his dream to open his own establishment in, and for, the local community.
I was in an executive role for a fashion company in Sydney and chose to defer from the corporate life to harness my passion for Interior Design and Styling. I studied for 18months and now have opened my own interior design business (LaSerena Decor and Design).
Any parting advice for anyone considering moving to the Gold Coast?
Do your research and really look at what the different suburbs have to offer you. Submerge yourself in the Community and get involved in all that it has to offer.
